Plain text from Modeste!
Anthony Modeste (33) was on on Sunday morning in the BILD TV show “Die Lage der Liga”. The Cologne-Knipser has already scored 15 goals this season, the Rhinelander shot to a strong eighth place. Even Europe is still in sight – four points in 5th place (Hoffenheim), three in 6th place (Leipzig/but has one game less).
Overall, Modeste has scored 42 percent of Cologne’s goals (15 of 36). That’s the highest percentage in the league!
Modeste spoke to moderators Walter M. Straten and Alexander von Schönburg about the current season – and his contract, which expires in the summer of 2023. The Frenchman now reported to BILD that there had not yet been any talks regarding an extension.
Modeste: “One thing I know: I feel like playing football and then we have to see what the future brings.”
AND THEN THIS!
The striker continues: “The club knows what to do. In the end I need a little security. I’m 33 years old turning 34 but I feel in top shape. Let’s see what happens. I am not stressed. I enjoy every game, every training session with my team. That’s the most important.”
He also added: “I said if we don’t find a solution and I feel like playing football, I have to think about something else. That’s already clear. If nothing comes from FC, then I have to look somehow.”
So FC had better hurry up…
Modeste also about…
… the canceled carnival procession on Shrove Monday: “In the end, there are more important things in life. The war in Ukraine is one of them. It is right to cancel carnival.”
… the 1:1 against Fürth: “A lot of people have already seen that we will win. Fürth really struggled. The 1-0 was not enough. In the end we didn’t lose, we were happy to take the point.”
… Coach Steffen Baumgart (50): “He gives me the confidence. I’ll give that back to him on the field.”
… the strong season of the Cologne team: “I said from the start it’s basically the same team. A coach (Steffen Baumgart; editor’s note) can change everything. He showed that. I’m happy that people enjoy watching the boys and me. We just have fun playing football.”
… the Modeste song by Ikke Hipgold: “It’s a very beautiful song. My kids love listening to it at home (laughs).”
