2022 Winter Olympics: cruciate ligament rupture for skier Camille Cerutti after falling downhill

The images that no one likes to see… As she set off to compete in the descent, in alpine skiing, the Frenchwoman suffered a violent fall shortly before passing through a door. A sequence far from being exceptional in this discipline but which was accompanied this time by cries of pain emanating from the skier, visibly injured.

In the images, we see the young skier miss a reception before suffering a violent shock on her knee which seems to come from the side opposite her skis. The tricolor then tumbled several meters before finishing its race in the safety nets.

A double knee injury

The race was interrupted for a few moments, the time to let the medical teams rush to Camille Cerutti in tears. After long minutes of expectation, the verdict is in. The French suffers from a rupture of the anterior cruciate ligament as well as a lesion to the internal meniscus of the right knee. She should be repatriated to France as soon as possible and will have to put skiing on hold until at least September.

“I was really afraid that the tibia would be broken but fortunately not (…). I left with big intentions, I took the same line as the last days but I arrived much faster so I jumped more, it unbalanced me a little and I felt the knee let go at the reception (…) I have already experienced injuries much more serious than that with the back which made me stop for 1 year and I say that I had a good season, I would have liked to finish it standing but in all case, the work has been done,” the skier said a few hours later.

After the accident, the race was then able to resume its rights and saw the Swiss Corinne Suter win and win the gold medal ahead of two Italians, Sofia Goggia (2nd) and Nadia Delgado (3rd). The first French, Laura Gauché, had a good race and finished in 10th position, three places ahead of her compatriot Romane Miradoli (13th). Tiffany Gauthier, part at fault, could not finish the race. For Mikaela Shiffrin, 18th, the galleys continue.
