The scene took place at the FedExField after the game between the Eagles and the Washington team. Just before Jalen Hurts entered the tunnel to exit the field, one of the metal barriers collapsed under the weight of fans celebrating their team’s 20-16 win.
A dozen supporters fell a few meters with the barrier. The quarterback managed to narrowly avoid it. A photographer, kneeling to take pictures of the player, was hit hard and had difficulty getting up.
“As you know, many people, including fans, members of the media and myself, were placed in a dangerous situation when portions of the FedExField Tunnel collapsed,” he wrote in his post. letter, made public by the journalist of the Washington Post Nicki Jhabvala, Tuesday afternoon.
“Although I was able to prevent the barrier from crashing down on me, it was not the same for others who could suffer injuries,” he added.
Shocked, Hurts bent over to help one of the men up. With an Olympian calm, he agreed to chat and take pictures with some supporters who had fallen. He then greeted everyone before stepping down.
“While I have maintained my composure, I understand the severity of what has happened and am extremely concerned for the well-being of fans and the media. I would like to know what the NFL and the Washington football team are doing to prevent this from happening again in the future. »
“NFL resources and organizations are ensuring our safety playing this physical sport, but what happened on Sunday puts fans and players alike at unnecessary risk, long after the final whistle. »
“I look forward to hearing from you on this subject,” he concluded.
