Lhe 2022 edition of the Mexican Tennis Open (AMT) will be the starting point for a new strategy in Acapulco that includes the attraction of multiple national and international events.
The AMT, which will attract four of the best tennis players in the world, will be held in the new GNP Seguros Arena, for which 50 million dollars were invested. “It is a development that was created by Grupo Mundo Imperial and Grupo Autofin, which can generate a significant economic benefit in the destination,” said Seyed Rezvani, general director of Grupo Mundo Imperial.
The new headquarters will provide the possibility of accommodating some 11,000 people, that is, 35% more than in the previous venue.
We will inaugurate it on February 21. Only for Mundo Imperial, the event generates about eight thousand room nights in the three properties in the destination”.
According to the organizers, in 2020 the AMT generated a spill of 800 million pesos to Acapulco, and this year it could exceed one billion.
THERE WILL BE MORE DIVERSIFICATION
Rezvani stressed that the Arena, which is part of the Riviera Diamante Acapulco Development Master Plan, for which an investment of one billion dollars was projected, will also be used for concerts such as that of Alejandro Fernández, which will take place on the 14th of April. However, work is already being done to diversify the events.

The general director of Grupo Mundo Imperial announced that there is already a better recovery of the destination after the covid-19 pandemic and for this year he foresees that the firm’s income can recover to a level of between 80 and 90% against 2019, because during last year it barely reached 60%.
However, he explained that congress and convention events such as Comex or Alsea, among others, were held in January. In addition, they are seeking to confirm the National Banking Convention and later, in May, the Tourist Tianguis will arrive.
