spanish Coach Carlos González Embarks on New Adventure with Atlético Ottawa
Rising star coach Carlos González, 35, has inked a two-year deal with Atlético Ottawa, a Canadian Premier League club affiliated with Spanish powerhouse atlético de Madrid. The club cited González’s youth, promise, experience, and versatility as key factors in their decision.
Joining González on this North American journey are two familiar faces: David Galán, who will serve as assistant coach and head of physical preparation, and Borja Montero, the designated goalkeeping coach. This trio previously collaborated successfully in Kuwait.
gonzález’s coaching journey began with a solid foundation in Sports Science, studying at both the Alfonso X el Sabio University and the University of Granada. This academic background fostered his understanding of sports performance management and ignited his passion for coaching.
His professional career took off in 2012 with Málaga club de Fútbol’s youth teams. In 2015, he joined the prestigious Atlético de Madrid association, steadily climbing the ranks of their youth system. By 2018, he had earned the coveted position of U-19 team coach.
González’s international experience began in 2020 when he was appointed head coach of Kuwait’s Under-23 National Team.He achieved a remarkable feat by guiding the team to their first Asian Cup qualification in a decade. He later took the helm of the senior team, leading them to two victories and a draw in three AFC Cup matches.
This move to Ottawa marks a important transition for González, not only geographically but also climatically. the team will depart for Spain this Saturday to commence pre-season training on February 28th. This intensive four-week program will include two daily training sessions and friendly matches before returning to Ottawa on March 26th. Atlético Ottawa’s 2022 season kicks off at home on April 9th.
A New Chapter for González: Can He Bring Success to Atlético Ottawa?
Welcome back, sports fans! Today, we have a captivating figure joining us to discuss the exciting news of Carlos González’s move to Atlético Ottawa. Joining me is former canadian national team player and current commentator, Iain Hume. Iain, thanks for being here.
Iain: It’s a pleasure to be here. this is a really intriguing growth for the CPL.
Moderator: Absolutely! González is undoubtedly a young coach with a promising track record. His time with Atlético Madrid’s youth system and his success with Kuwait’s national team speak volumes. What are yoru initial thoughts on this appointment for Atlético Ottawa?
Iain: It’s a bold move, for sure. Bringing in someone with González’s experience, especially from a club with the pedigree of Atlético Madrid, shows real ambition from Ottawa.
Moderator: Exactly! They’re clearly aiming for something special. One thing that stands out is the fact his entire coaching staff – David galán and Borja Montero – are coming with him. Do you think that existing chemistry will be a significant advantage for the team?
Iain: Without a doubt. Knowing your staff inside and out, their strengths and weaknesses, can be invaluable. This seamless transition could help González implement his ideas faster and build a cohesive unit early on.
Moderator: You mentioned González’s ideas. Obviously, his tactical approach will be shaped by his experience and philosophy. Having worked with both youth teams and senior national sides, do you anticipate he’ll implement a particular style of play with Ottawa?
Iain: It’s too early to say definitively. His experience with Atlético Madrid suggests he’ll prioritize a possession-based style, maybe even a touch of that famous ‘tiki-taka’. But remember, he also adapted to the challenges of international football with Kuwait, so he’s clearly flexible. I think Ottawa fans can expect exciting, attacking football.
Moderator:
Exciting, indeed! Now, Atlético Ottawa will be heading to Spain for pre-season training. That seems like a smart move considering González’s background. Do you think this intensive training program will be crucial in preparing the team for the upcoming season?
Iain: Definitely.Training in Spain will expose the players to a different environment, different playing styles, and allow them to bond as a team. This is especially important with so many new faces joining the club.
Moderator:
This is a massive chance for Atlético Ottawa and the CPL as a whole. Do you foresee González’s arrival attracting more attention to the league internationally?
Iain: I definitely think so.
González’s pedigree could draw eyes from Europe and beyond. If Ottawa can perform well under his leadership, it could raise the profile of the entire CPL. We could even see more young, aspiring coaches like González looking at the league as a platform for their development
