The Alpine unit underwent significant changes in the off-season, with Otmar Schafnauer as its new leader and water equipment maker BWT as its main sponsor. Schaffnaer previously led the Aston Martin team, so not only he but also the title sponsor BWT has joined Alpine. Renault’s engine division will be headed by former FIA employee Bruno Famins.
With the arrival of the new main sponsor, which was announced earlier, the color of the new racing car has also changed. From now on, Alpine’s characteristic blue color will be combined with pink, which will be used on the front and rear fenders as well as the sides of the formula. Moreover, in the first two stages in Bahrain and Saudi Arabia, thanks to BWT, the cars will be almost completely pink, while the second color will be used from the third stage in Australia.
Two-time F1 world champion Fernando Alonso and Esteban Ocon will continue to compete in Alpine.
Last year, the team took fifth place in the Designers’ Cup, and Alpine CEO Loren Rosi said in a presentation that the main goal this season is to get at least as high a position.
“Fifth place is the minimum we should aim for after last year’s performance,” Rosi said. “So far we have achieved all the goals we have set, but we need to be realistic and understand that this year all the cards have been dropped. In reality, we will not know how fast we will be until we have all left the track.”
