The coach of the American snowboard team, Peter Foley, present at the Beijing Olympics, was accused of sexual harassment and inappropriate behavior by a former specialist in the sport, Callan Chythlook-Sifsof, in a message posted on Instagram on Friday.
Former Olympic snowboarder Callan Chythlook-Sifsof, 32, said on the social network that “Peter Foley has been taking nude photos of female athletes for more than a decade.”
The American also claimed that the coach made a sexual comment to her, when she was 17, and to a teammate in Lake Louise, Canada in 2014. “I can’t watch another Olympics without saying this publicly,” the athlete said. .
In a statement sent to various media, the US Ski and Snowboard Federation (US Ski & Snowboard) advanced that it is investigating these accusations. “We take these allegations very seriously and the allegations are being investigated,” the agency said.
In her messages, Chythlook-Sifsof also said that Hagen Kearney, an American Olympic snowboard cross athlete, had used a racial slur against her and harassed her.
“Don’t carry these things again,” he assured. “There was strange behavior across the board. The people I’ve named have behaved openly in a toxic way, but the truth is that the culture in the team protected this behavior. Things have been normalized that are not right.”
“Other athletes have engaged in racist and misogynistic behavior, actively participating in the strange dynamic that Peter Foley created and causing female athletes or staff to be victims of sexual violence,” Chythlook-Sifsof said.
