Yangtze (China), Feb. 5, LETA. Latvian sleigh rider Kristers Aparjods takes the fifth place after the first race of the Beijing Olympic Games, Gints Bērziņš is in the sixth place, but Artūrs Dārznieks is in the 22nd position.
It has already been reported that after the first trip, Aparjods was fourth, Bērziņš was seventh, and Dārznieks was in 17th position.
The leader after two races is the German Johannes Ludwig, who in the sum of two races showed a time of one minute and 54,501 seconds. The second, lagging behind the leader by 0.0039 seconds, is the Austrian athlete Wolfgang Kindl, but the best three is closed by the Italian Dominik Fischnaller, who gives way to the German 0.304 seconds.
Aparjod is 0.460 seconds behind Ludwig, and Bērziņš is 0.662 seconds behind. In turn, the Gardener loses 3,035 seconds to the leader after two trips.
In the second trip, Aparjodus was overtaken by the German Felix Lohs, who is 0.382 seconds behind Ludwig, while Bērziņš was able to overtake another German Max Langenhan, who is 0.019 seconds ahead. Meanwhile, the Gardener made another unsuccessful trip and lost five places in the total, which forced him to retire to the 22nd position out of 34 athletes.
The third and final fourth trip will take place tomorrow. The start of the third trip is scheduled for 13.30, but the start of the fourth trip is scheduled for 15.15 (Latvian time).
In the Pyongyang Olympic Games in 2018, Aparjods took the 11th place, as well as finished sixth in the team relay as a member of the Latvian national team. The gardener took the 24th place, but Bērziņš is the debutant of the competition.
