Argentina beat Panama this Saturday 65-58 at the Obras Sanitarias stadium in Buenos Aires for the second FIBA qualifying window for the 2023 Basketball World Cup.
The local team, led by Néstor ‘Che’ García, led the first quarter, which they dominated 19-14, and the last 16-7, while Panama showed forcefulness in the second quarter, leading 14-20, and in the third, when they left top 16-17.
But Argentina, encouraged by the public, showed their qualities and their hierarchy in the last quarter that gave them a 65-58 victory against a great rival.
Argentine Carlos Delfino was the most outstanding player for the home side with 15 points, 9 rebounds and 3 assists, while Ernesto Oglivie stood out for the visit with 17 points scored, 10 rebounds and 2 assists.
With the win, Argentina recovered from last Friday’s tough 71-58 defeat to Venezuela.
In the other Group A match, which was also played this Saturday on the same stage, Venezuela defeated Paraguay 48-97.
On June 30, the fifth day will be held with the Venezuela-Argentina and Panama-Paraguay matches.
Group A is led by Venezuela with 8 points, followed by Argentina with 7, Panama with 5 and Paraguay with 4.
