In a tight final, Atlético Tala won at home against Luis Luciano by 88-83. Agustín Vergara was the star of the game with 24 points, while Juan Fouce scored 26 during the visit.
From the first minutes, the proceedings of the duel between Atlético Tala and Luciano de Urdinarrein showed a certain parity between both teams. On the local side, Hauscarriague and Copello took the initiative in the offensive, while Feldmann and Fouce did so in the visiting team. Midway through the fourth, Luciano was firmer with his game and went up on the scoreboard, but the Blues, with an improvement on the defensive side, managed to regain the advantage and win 24-21 at the end of the first ten minutes.
The second segment started just as level as the previous one. Vergara’s appearances in the host team gave points to those who have been having good games at the beginning of the tournament, but as much as Atlético wanted, Lucho responded and managed to keep the difference at five points averaging the fourth. Little by little, Revello got among the top scorers of the visit, while Salinas and Jovanovich contributed at home. In this way they went to the long break with a difference of 44-39 in favor of the homeowner.
The break seemed to bear fruit for the Blues, who, through their good defense, began to gain distance on the scoreboard. Melchior’s contribution and Hauscarriague’s continuity gave him an advantage that reached 15 points midway through the set, although Fouce continued his scoring streak and gave the visitors a glimmer of hope for the last 10 minutes. Atlético continued to lead 63-54 heading into the closing game.
As expected, there were more than interesting minutes in the final quarter. Luciano deducted the difference from the hand of his figure, Fouce (26 points), but on the other hand, Vergara (24) responded for the locals, helping them to maintain the lead by nine points with two minutes to go. Two free kicks by Salinas in the blues would be answered quickly by Gaytan and Fouce, who with one minute to go left their team one triple behind equality.
Atlético lost the ball, but Lucho’s attempt to level the score was ineffective. There, Jovanovich and then Haucarriague closed the match from the free throw line and gave the local the second victory in the tournament. The score ended 88-83 in favor of the Blue Devils, who are gradually improving their game in an area that has been very even from the start.
The local victories in this start will give the Talenses greater confidence when playing away from home. Next Sunday, those led by Luis María Velázques will play again at home against Olimpia from the city of Paraná.
