The Sudirman Cup assimilated to the team world championships started last Sunday in Vantaa, in the suburbs of Helsinki (Finland). And it is clear that the Tahitian selection has suffered somewhat from the winter temperatures that already reign in the country. Because in terms of results, the first two matches played in group B were each lost with a heavy score of 5-0. Team Tahiti was, it is true, confronted with large armadas, but it was nevertheless very favorably noticed for its performance, its tenacity and its commitment, despite the youth of its workforce. “While France did not send a team… the tricolors are nevertheless represented by the Tahiti team, whose Federation is registered, in the same way as several British islands – within the BWF as its own entity” can -we thus read on www.badzine.fr.
“Léo Cucuel has therefore taken a very young team on board in Lapland, with players who are discovering the very high level in a setting of choice”, adds the website specializing in this racket sport. “It’s true that it’s a fabulous experience for these young players. They will remember it all their life, that’s for sure, ”explains Léo, coaching player of our national team, some of whom like Chloé Segrestan or Heirautea Curet play in France. “With three players aged 16 or under, Élias Maublanc or Maeva Gaillard or even Jenica Lesourd, our young friends will indeed come back with stars – and dreams in their eyes, having met the Korean, German and Taiwanese stars in group matches” adds www.badzine.fr.
Remember that at the end of this Sudirman Cup which will end on Sunday October 3 in Finland, Team Tahiti will move on to the Thomas & Uber Cup, from Saturday October 9 to Sunday October 17, this time in Denmark.
