Badminton Team Halle ’86 strong at its own Castaar International

Last weekend the international tournament of Badminton team Halle ’86, the Castaar International, took place in Sportcomplex De Bres in Halle. Yaro Van Delsen, the Belgian number 2, won the tournament and succeeds Tijl Dewit, who did not make the final this edition. Hadewig Colaert took the trophy home with the ladies.

Their own BTH’86 players also did very well. Kevin Van Cutsem and Laura Buelinckx won silver in the GD 11-12, Sander Scheurwater won gold in the GD 9-10 with the Dutch Sabine Van Der Wal, Nias Devalckeneer and Mathis Willems were also on the podium in the HD 9- 10. Thomas Decamps took gold together with Sander Scheurwater in HD 7-8. In singles, Tim Demuylder took a medal in the HE 7-8, while both Michael Adams and Thomas Kaviani were on the podium in the HE 11-12.

The organizing club had a difficult year because of Corona, but decided to let the tournament continue. “This edition we had to reduce the prize money in order not to make a loss.” says tournament director Arno De Witte. “The general trend is that both membership numbers and players participating in tournaments are declining. COVID-19 is obviously the culprit there.” However, BTH ’86 is looking positively ahead and wants to use this year’s edition as a basis for further growth of the Castaar International.
