Discussion with film clips: About the roots of the extreme right in the GDR
In 1987, a group of neo-Nazis attacked the visitors of a rock concert in the Zion Church. Young activists from the environmental library there investigated the matter and interviewed those involved.
Although the GDR presented itself as an anti-fascist state, the right-wingers filmed in East Berlin were not isolated cases. The footage makes it clear that neo-Nazis and right-wing extremists in the territory of the former GDR did not suddenly fall from the sky after the fall of the Wall. Some of the footage is unpublished from that time and from the so-called “baseball bat years” after the fall of the Wall.
In conversation with the audience, the question will be explored as to what was part of the specific roots of this radicalization, and how far its shadow still reaches today.
