BASKETBALL: The JDA Dijon takes its revenge on Orléans

The Orleans team again gave the Dijon team a hard time this Saturday, February 5th. The Dijon basketball players put more intensity on the return from the locker room on the opposing floor (66-77).

Orléans Loiret Basket was the author during the first half of the season of a “surprise” at the Palais des Sports in Dijon. On November 20, 2021, the OLB inflicted on JDA Dijon its first home defeat in the league of the 2021-2022 season.

For revenge, going to win in Orléans (7 wins and 11 losses) was far from being mission impossible for the JDA Dijon (9 wins and 8 losses), but it was not a question of taking the trip lightly, knowing in addition that the Dijon team is connected to alternating current this season. This is all the more so as the Dijon basketball players had paid off on the outward journey for a devastating long-range shooting skill from Orleans while the Dijon team had struggled to get their shots in during the second part of the match.

Problem to solve this Saturday, February 5, 2022: the Dijon address was really not in order from the start of the match (less than 36% success after ten minutes of play). The OLB did less well overall (28.57%) but a little better at long distance (33.3%). Only 16-12 after the first quarter, it was not madness. It was Rashard Kelly on two three-point shots in a row that allowed JDA Dijon to take the lead in this match. An advantage that the Dijon basketball players did not let go of in the second quarter, until the last minute of it.

Dijon point guard David Holston put on a little more pace, but Orleans point guard Chris Warren (13 points in less than 17 minutes of play) put on his sniper suit to allow his teammates to return to the locker room leading to score (35-34).

Defensive intensity to make a gap

Back from the locker room, the JDA Dijon put defensive intensity as well as rhythm in their ball circulation. Gavin Ware missing on the score sheet, we could notice the good activity of Jacques Alingue, with in particular 6 rebounds and 3 steals so far (7 rebounds, 3 assists and 4 steals at the end of the match). By noting more broadly that the Dijon team had just dominated the third quarter and finished it with an eleven point lead (48-59).

Too quickly in the penalty for team fouls in the fourth quarter, the JDA Dijon had elements to control in a money-time where the threat Chris Warren could rage. The latter also brought his team to four points (59-63). Then at a point on the free throw line (63-64, 2’26 from the end of the match).

How good was David Holston’s three-point shot (63-67 at 1’57 from the final buzzer)! As well as Jacques Alingue’s dunk, even if he did not validate the 2+1 (63-69, 1’25 remaining to play).

The reversal of the situation has become too difficult for the Orleans players. Chase Simon then David Holston at long distance ratified the Dijon victory, complicated, even undecided, but deserved in the end (66-77). Chase Simon, MVP of the game, with 18 points, 6 rebounds, 5 assists, 23 rating.

With this 10th victory in 18 games, the JDA Dijon opens the doors to the top 8 of Betclic Elite.
