Tackling Childhood Obesity in Ciudad Juárez: A New Initiative
A groundbreaking pilot program aimed at combating childhood obesity and promoting physical activity is set to launch in Ciudad Juárez. Spearheaded by Maurilio Fuentes, Undersecretary of Education in the North zone, the initiative will initially focus on 50 schools, with plans to expand to other institutions in the future.
The program,designed to address the alarming rise in obesity and sedentary lifestyles exacerbated by the pandemic,will receive a important investment of 1.1 million pesos. These funds will be allocated towards refurbishing basketball courts in 50 schools, providing essential equipment such as balls, jerseys, and nets, and covering the costs of qualified instructors.
Beyond physical activity,the program will also prioritize nutritional education. children participating will receive guidance on healthy eating habits, empowering them to make informed choices about their diet.
Adding star power to the initiative are two renowned athletes, Angel Gonzalez and Enrique “El Palma” Gonzalez, who will lend their expertise and inspire young participants.
With all preparations in place, the program is poised to commence in March, offering a beacon of hope for a healthier future for Ciudad Juárez’s youth.
