Bayern prevail against Leipzig in the top game!

FC Bayern clinched their first home win of the new year on matchday 21 in the Bundesliga. The Munich team beat RB Leipzig 3-2 in an intense top-flight game on Saturday evening.

Bayern are slowly but surely gaining momentum again in the Bundesliga. After the two sovereign away wins against Cologne and Hertha BSC, the Munich team has brought in their third win in a row, the first in the Allianz Arena at home in the second half of the season. Julian Nagelsmann and his team celebrated a 3-2 win against RB Leipzig in the top game in the Bundesliga.

With the home win, FCB extended their lead over Borussia Dortmund to nine points. However, BVB won’t play Bayer Leverkusen until tomorrow, Sunday.

Nagelsmann again goes on the offensive

As in the 4-1 win against Hertha, Nagelsmann relied on an offensive 3-2-4-1 system. There were no changes in personnel. In addition to the back three with Pavard, Süle and Hernandez, Corentin Tolisso was also allowed to start again in the center next to Joshua Kimmich. In front of the two sixes, a four-man offensive series with Serge Gnabry, Leroy Sane, Kingsley Coman and Thomas Müller was used again.

Müller and Lewandowski are there

In front of 10,000 spectators in the Allianz Arena, an open exchange of blows developed between the two teams from the start. While Bayern had a little more possession of the ball, the Saxons had their first dangerous chance of the game: Dani Olmo fired a long-range shot from just under 16 meters just over the post in the 10th minute.

On the other side, Bayern took a 1-0 lead as it were: after a Lewandowski shot, Gulasci let the ball bounce forward. Müller was spot on and put FCB ahead in the 12th minute.

However, Leipzig presented itself as anything but shocked. Olmo had a double chance in the 16th and 18th. However, the Spaniard failed twice at the strong Manuel Neuer. In the 27th, however, the FCB captain was powerless. After a mistake by Tolisso in the build-up game, the ball landed via Mukiele and Laimer at Silva, who scored the 1-1 equalizer for the guests from close range.

In the 32nd Bayern had the next good opportunity and again it was Müller, whose deflected long-range shot was saved by Gulasci. Just a few seconds later, Coman failed with a nice chip on the post. In the 36th Müller scored the supposed 2:1. However, the header was annulled by the VAR after Lewandowski had previously been penalized for fouling Gvardiol.

Shortly before the break (44th), however, the time had come: After a nice cross from Coman, Lewandowski headed FCB back 2-1 from almost eight meters out. With this score we went into the half-time break.

Nkunku shocks Bayern, Gvardiol own goal secures Bayern victory

After the change of sides, Leipzig got off to a much better start. Christopher Nkunku equalized again in the 53rd. But FCB didn’t take long to recover from the setback. Gvardiol deflected a cross from Gnabry into his own goal in the 58th minute, making it 3-2 for the record champions.

In the aftermath, it remained an open game. Lewandowski just missed his second goal of the evening in the 71st. Just a few seconds later, Szoboszlai tested Neuer in Bayern’s goal. The FCB keeper had to intervene again in the 82nd minute, but this time against Forsberg. In the end, it was a narrow win at home for FCB.

For Bayern it will continue in a week. Then the Munich team is a guest at newly promoted VfL Bochum.
