Benin: Laurent Larivière in Cotonou for the establishment of Nihon Tai Jitsu

Benin officially enters the circle of countries that have adopted Nihon Tai Jitsu. The official ceremony for the implantation of this Japanese martial art of Western design is taking place in Cotonou this Saturday, February 12, 2022. It will give rise to an implantation course which brings together several age categories and under the leadership of Laurent Larivière, Director Technique of the International Nihon Tai Jitsu Association.

An ancestor of martial arts such as judo, karate or even aikido, Nihon Tai Jitsu finally arrives in Benin. After the missed meeting a year ago due to Covid-19, the discipline is officially taking its first steps in Benin. This, through the implementation course which is held this Saturday in Cotonou. The initiative is brought to Benin by Zénaye Amoussou and his peers. The implementation course is placed under the direction of Laurent Larivière, Technical Director of the International Nihon Tai Jitsu Association.

In Cotonou, the Frenchman intends to introduce the Beninese to Nihon Tai Jitsu in all its dimensions. “The goal is already to present the discipline to all those who want to work with us. During this course, I will first give the basics of the discipline. Afterwards, I will also help the different countries, not just Benin, by making technical sheets, small technical videos that I am creating. it can already help memorize the techniques, have something they can rely on, I will also send them documents, ”explained Laurent Larivière at a press conference this Friday.

Black belt 6th Dan Nihon Tai Jitsu and 6th Dan Nihon Ju Jitsu, Laurent Larivière intends to equip practitioners and future practitioners. This, in order to contribute to a better expansion of the discipline in Benin and in Africa. “I am starting this internship with the various country managers and the black belts who are already interested. For newcomers, to introduce them to the discipline, and for people who have been there for a while, we will work on superior techniques,” said the Technical Director of the International Nihon Tai Jitsu Association.

Internships and grade approval

Scheduled from February 11 to 13, 2022, the Nihon Tai Jitsu implantation course in Benin will take place in several stages. It takes into account the technical courses reserved for black belts, adults and children. It will also be marked by a grade certification examination.
