The XIX Binéfar Sports Awards Gala, held this Friday at the Municipal Theater and organized by the town council, has awarded seven outstanding athletes, entities and people for their sporting merits during 2020among whom was José Luis Paricio –for his career as a sports journalist- on whom the special award from the Department of Sports was awarded.
The mayor of Binéfar, Alfonso Adán, who opened the event, congratulated athletes, clubs, families and the Department and Sports Council for “the great ddedication, work and effort they dedicate to keeping the sports record at the top of our locality. Likewise, he has encouraged them “to continue in this line, which fills us with satisfaction to see dreams come true with success at all levels”.
Alfonso Adán and Juan Carlos García – Councilor for Sports – have been in charge of delivering the awards to the most outstanding athletes in the following categories: Sergio Barreda (CD Binéfar), prize for the best team sports athlete; Paula Ambau (Binéfar Athletics Club) and Rodrigo Pérez (Binéfar Judo Club), for the best promising female and male athletes (up to 17 years); Sergio García (Club Judo Binéfar), to the best absolute male athlete (from 18 years old); first cadet team (CF Base Binéfar), to the group with the greatest sporting merits; El Reto de Correr, to the sponsoring company;; and José Luis Paricio, special award from the Department of Sports, to recognize the career as a sports journalist on radio and in the press of this man from Binefar.
The clubs also delivered their awards, that went to Laura Gimeno (Club Chess Binéfar), Laura Chirón (Club Badminton Binéfar), Rafa Nadal (AD Veteranos Binéfar), Ana Bardalés (Club Rítmica Binéfar), Pilar Blanco (Club Litera Montaña), José María Cosialls (Club Futsal Binéfar ), club members (Club Ciclista Binéfar 2010), Jorge Ascaso (Kickboxing School Binéfar), Jesús Ortiz (Club Athletics Binéfar), women’s team +45 (Club Tennis-Pádel Binéfar), Francisco Fuentes (Club Fútbol Base Binéfar), TGelmo Pereira (ACR Binéfar 77 Table Tennis Club), María José González (Binéfar Basketball Club), Rosa Marqués (Binéfar Judo Club), Peña Blue Boys (CD Binéfar), Mario García (Binéfar La Litera Fishermen’s Club).
The event was closed by Juan Carlos García, who highlighted in his speech that sport in Binéfar has not stopped during the pandemic and that it has been possible to celebrate “numerous sporting events at the highest levelsuch as provincial and regional championships, cups and tournaments of different disciplines: chess, athletics, billiards, soccer, indoor soccer, table tennis, judo, kickboxing, tennis and paddle tennis… Departures have been resumed from the Litera Montaña Club, training sessions and meetings the Cycling Club, the Rhythmic Club, the Basketball Club, shots from the Hunting and Shooting Club and the Fishing Club championships; the Motorcycle Club has prepared a meeting for next April or this Sunday the 45th Cross of San Quilez will be held”. He has also referred to the triumphs and milestones achieved by athletes from Binefarenseswhich have been awarded today, and has anticipated that the next appointments will be in April the Spanish Judo Cup and in May the 5 and 10 k races.
“These awards are the recognition of the clubs and the City Council, not only for your sporting achievements, but also for your commitment to people. Sport is, above all, self-improvement, overcoming our obstacles and limitations. It is a principle that has a lot to do with education, which is the basic pillar that sustains a society. There is no better investment”, concluded the mayor of Sports.
