“It’s a beautiful day, for me and my whole family. What I wanted was happening. I think that’s what the management of the club wanted and, in addition to the fans, maybe the whole city,” said Buffon, who has a strong bond with the club.
The legendary goalkeeper returned to Parma, where he began his career more than 30 years ago, after the end of last season from Juventus Turin. The Carrara native then signed a two-year contract at the club, which he has now extended by a year.
Forty-four-year-old Buffon has played 23 Serie B games this season and maintained eight net accounts. Parma scored 32 points in 26 matches and ranks 13th in the table. It is nine points apart from the playoffs.
Former longtime national team member Buffon holds the record for the number of matches played in Serie A with 657 starts. During 19 seasons in Juventus, he won ten league titles and reached the Champions League final three times.
