Bundesliga: Cologne, Wolfsburg, Leipzig – are these the first full stadiums? – Bundesliga

Full stadiums like in England – unfortunately that remains a dream for us for the time being!

At the earliest from March 20th (a Sunday!) there will be sold out games again! Leipzig, Wolfsburg and Cologne could then fill the hut. That was last in mid-November in the Bundesliga.

The draft resolution for the meeting of the prime ministers only promises the full opening of the stadiums (albeit with 2G or 3G) in five weeks.

Many fans are wondering: Why not open the arenas now?

From March 4, only 60% stadium capacity (maximum 25,000 fans) should apply.

What does the league say?

► Cologne boss Alexander Wehrle: “25,000 spectators is a good intermediate step if, from March 20th, the stadiums can finally be fully occupied.”

Irrespective of this, Cologne submitted an urgent application to the higher administrative court in Münster last Friday and is demanding 25,000 spectators for the next home game on Saturday against Frankfurt. Decision probably tomorrow!

► RB Leipzig said: “In the last home game against Cologne, you noticed once again what an atmospheric difference it makes to play with our fans. Every spectator counts for us. If the pandemic situation continues to ease in March, we are still of the opinion that football and professional sport in general should go back to normal and the stadiums should be allowed to open further. For the clubs and last but not least for the people who, after two years of the pandemic, finally want to experience a more relaxed way of spending their free time.”

►Union criticizes the planned easing in a statement as “too late, too little!”

Bayern boss Oliver Kahn: “Once more spectators are allowed into the Allianz Arena again, vaccinations will of course become more and more important.”

Bochum’s finance director Ilja Kaenzig: “The 60 percent rule is an improvement. When it comes to seats only, that means 9000 spectators. If you add the standing room, we would come up with 16,200.”

Other clubs and the DFL are waiting for the Prime Minister’s decision on Wednesday.

The CDU member of the Bundestag Christoph Ploß (36) to BILD: “We are far away from an overload of the intensive care units. A capacity utilization of more than 60 percent should be possible, especially outdoors!”
