Final Champions League 2021/2022 which will be renamed at Russia officially moved to Paris because of the impact of the war.
This was decided by the European Football Confederation (UEFA) after holding an emergency meeting on Friday (25/2). This is a step for Russia’s invasion of Ukraine.
Initially, UEFA set the Krestovsky Stadium in Saint Petersburg, Russia, as the venue for the Champions League final. However, the location of the top party for the European club tournament was moved to the Stade de France, Paris, France on May 28, 2022.
Reporting from the New York Times, UEFA said it would move all matches involving Russia and Ukraine, both for club matches and international matches.
However, the decision to move the 2022 World Cup Qualifiers match at the end of March from Russia depends on FIFA’s decision. So far there has been no decision from FIFA.
“UEFA would like to express its gratitude and appreciation to the President of the French Republic Emmanuel Macron for his personal support and commitment to moving the most prestigious match of European club football to France at a time of unparalleled crisis,” UEFA said in a statement.
“Together with the French government, UEFA will fully support multi-stakeholder efforts to ensure the provision of rescue for football players and their families in Ukraine who are facing horrific suffering, destruction and human displacement.”
Russia began to invade Ukraine since Thursday (24/2). Until now, the Ukrainian government said the war had claimed the lives of up to 137 people.
