Nfter the Russian attack on Ukraine, the European Football Union will deprive St. Petersburg of the Champions League final. The final is so far scheduled for May 28 in the World Cup arena in Vladimir Putin’s hometown. According to dpa information, the decision to withdraw the host role should be made at the extraordinary meeting of the Uefa Executive Committee on Friday (10:00 a.m.CET). A decision on a replacement location is not expected on Friday.

The final venue had to be changed in the past two seasons due to the corona pandemic. According to information from the English news agency Press Association, a venue in England is currently under discussion – especially if two Premier League clubs should make it to the final.
However, two top arenas are already occupied on the final day. The second division playoff final is to be played at Wembley Stadium. A rugby final is on the schedule at the modern Tottenham Arena. The Olympic Stadium, where West Ham United plays, is also under discussion. A renewed exchange with the final locations of the coming years would also be possible. Istanbul and Munich would then be options.
