Chinese Badminton Allegedly Doing Match Fixing, Against Indonesian Players
Jakarta

The allegation of fixing the score in badminton happened again. This time it involved Chinese men’s doubles player Di Zijian in a match against Indonesian players at the 2021 Denmark Open.

The news emerged after Di Zijian’s ex-lover published a screenshot of his conversation with the world number 43 player.

On the Badminton Planet website, it is explained how the Wang Chan pair in the badminton men’s doubles sector made a match against Muhammad Shohibul Fikri/Bagas Maulana in the first round of the BWF World Tour Super 1000 tournament on 19 October.

Di Zijian is said to only need to lose in the first set to get the 100 thousand yuan as promised to him.

“I will lose in the first set in the first match. I can earn up to 100 thousand plus renminbi. After that, I will play more seriously. If I win, I will win. But if you lose, you lose,” said Zijian.

Di Zijian’s unnamed ex-girlfriend responded with another question, “So you’re going to play three games?”

“Yes (will play three games). It means that if I win in the second game, then I only need to win again in the third game,” Di Zijian replied. When asked who his opponent was, Di Zijian answered by writing from Indonesia. “From Indonesia, it’s not bad.”

Although it was true that the next day Di Zijian/Wang Chan faced Fikri/Bagas, the fact was that the Chinese doubles lost two straight games with a landslide score of 6-21 in the first game, and 19-21 in the next.

Until this news was revealed, it is not yet known whether the news of the score fixing is true. Di Zijian/Wang Chan themselves are one of the male pairs that have the potential for the advancement of Chinese badminton, after Li Junhui decided to retire.

As for Di Zijian, in November last year, two Chinese badminton players, namely Zhu Ju Hao and Zhang Bin Rong, were also found to have violated the BWF code of ethics regarding match fixing.

Zhu Junhao who was paired with Hua Xiaobei lost to Li. KHIM wah/Lee Zhi Qing (Malaysia) with a score of 19-21, 21-19, 21-13 in the second qualifying round of the 2019 Orleans Masters.

Meanwhile, Zhang Bin Rong is considered to have manipulated the match in the 2019 international competition. They have currently sentenced both of them to be involved in badminton for two years.
