Woooooooah baby! Nearly 40 new 2022-23 NBA jerseys have been leaked in the past few hours, courtesy of two generous Twitter accounts.
The leak included 22 of 30 new City Edition kits for next season, six new Statement Edition (alternatives) and nine new outfits (or “Classic Edition“). The sketches leaked to me have been confirmed by reliable sources to be legit.
Before we take a look at these T-shirts, first the accessories for Twitter users Mustafa Hosny Oh God, Amen And the Embed a tweet To share these drawings with the world, and second, remember that these are leaks; Image quality isn’t the best… Perfection is the enemy of good friends, those low resolution graphics are definitely better than nothing.
We will start with the big hole in the boat, the 22 leaks of the “City Edition” 2022-2023.
UNIFORMES NBA CITY EDITION 2022-23
The City Edition suit (almost always) is a year-only style and is meant to be quirky. NBA teams are encouraged to step out of their comfort zone to pay tribute to their city, their fans, their home market…and we can certainly see good examples of that in 2022-23.
Cleveland’s ‘Earth’, Oakland’s tree in the Golden State, Sixers wearing ‘City of Brotherly Love’, Phoenix wearing the colors of their local native tribes, and Trail Blazers with Airport carpet in “PDX” design Good examples of city or market orientation rather than the team tradition itself. I don’t know what witches praise for their pink uniforms; Maybe someone with a better knowledge of the metro area might know? Maybe for the cherry blossoms?
The Brooklyn Nets and Miami Heat are keeping their City Edition “Mixtape” uniforms from 2021-23, only changing the primary color from black to white.
UNIFORMES NBA « STATEMENT » 2022-23
The Manifesto Edition costume is what we earlier called an alternate costume; They are worn a few dozen times per season and must be kept for at least three seasons. The Manifesto Edition uniform is the only NBA jersey style at the league level to feature Nike “Air Jordan” branding instead of the familiar “Swoosh” logo.
It’s a little hard to see what’s going on in detail here; The Clippers seek to return to their past by merging The sails of the classic San Diego Clippers logo On their uniform, the Lakers are bringing back their old black-soaked purple (note, as a “statement” uniform, that means it replaces the very classic purple and gold…unless I’m missing something completely). Utah is Utah. Why are they staying away from sunrise because it’s so far away from me – we’ll have to wait for the official release for an explanation.
2022-23 NBA CLASSIC EDITION MAILLOTS T-shirts
“Classic Edition” (or what we usually call “throwback”) uniforms are the only time NBA clubs are allowed to recreate an old design exactly as it once was, and can only be worn for a season and this season must be heavily numbered (meaningfully anything primary divisible by 5) Anniversary of the founding or transfer of the team and/or the previous team championship.
In the 2022-23 season, we had *at least* nine rebounds like this, with the Nets wearing New Jersey’s old ’80s kit, the Pistons in the ’90s championships, and Golden State returning also in the 90s. Los Angeles recalls the powder and gold days of 1950s Minneapolis, the expansive Miami look of 1989 and the purple pax of the 90s as well as sunshine. San Antonio have been wearing black-on-black since their time at the ABA in the 70s (yes, they also did stupid, unreadable numbers 50 years ago), and finally, the Washington Wizards, like the Pistons, are returning to their teal/light blue design in the late 90s.
Although NBA uniforms leak regularly, I don’t think we’ve seen this many leaked uniforms in one day, and certainly not so soon! The 2021-22 season is still only halfway! We probably won’t see its official release until the summer, as the “City Edition” collection will likely be closed until the October opening date… the baby worn today can be shown in time to see its release official; What an idea!
