Referee Néstor Pitana, well remembered by fans after his controversial presentation in the Copa América match between Brazil and Colombia, will once again direct a match between a team from our country.
The Argentine will be in charge of imparting justice in the duel of the second phase of the Copa Libertadores, which will be played this Thursday by Atlético Nacional vs Olimpia: lineups, time and where to watch phase 2 match | Libertadores Cup”>Olimpia de Paraguay and Atlético Nacional, at the Defensores del Chaco stadium in Asunción.
The last meeting directed by Pitana to a Colombian club took place on May 25, 2021, in the match between Cerro Porteño and América de Cali, which ended 1-0 in favor of the Paraguayan team.
Both in Paraguay and in Colombia, the appointment of the Argentine judge for this commitment has not left a good feeling, since the Referee Commission of the Argentine Football Association (AFA) did not include him in the list of 10 referees with a FIFA badge for 2022, and even so, Conmebol scheduled it for this commitment.
It should be remembered that the matches of international tournaments, such as the Copa Libertadores and the Copa Sudamericana, can only be administered by Fifa referees, hence the controversy over Pitana.
His last match in international tournaments was the final of the 2021 Copa Libertadores, between Flamengo and Palmeiras, at the Centenario stadium in Montevideo.
