“SURPRISE!!! My first steps”. The Colombian Egan Bernal of the Ineos Grenadiers continues his recovery phase with steps as firm as those he took in his cycling stage. Today, Thursday, he posted a video on his Instagram in which he can be seen walking, something that seemed much further away when the news of his accident spread, which, as the doctors at the La Sabana University Clinic indicated, cost him little life.

Egan Bernal has undergone seven surgeries to repair the consequences of the accident on January 24 in which he crashed at 65 per hour against the back of a bus when he was training with the time trial goat. Due to the impact he suffered fractures in several thoracic vertebrae, the right femur and patella, several ribs, a hand and mouth, and also had a pulmonary perforation.

Even so, despite the fact that the clinic’s statements speak of a “prompt recovery”, the possibility that he will run this season seems complicated. That yes, nobody can doubt the Colombian, who had already returned in 2021 to the highest level after a 2020 in which back problems were martyrdom. Attitude is not lacking, since he has already left several signs of his desire to return with messages on social networks. «Now to recover and make this another… I’M BACK!! And let’s rock. He will have to do it step by step, like in the video posted today. He already knows that it is “the most difficult race of his life.”
