Damian Lillard was a guest on the Draymond Green Show this week and, as you might expect, the discussion was interesting. The Blazers point guard reaffirmed his loyalty to Portland despite the front office not allowing him to play with an All-Star teammate at the same time as him.
Among the topics discussed, Lillard gave his point of view on a possible hierarchy of leaders in the NBA. If he respects everyone, there is only one player he agrees to consider really above him in terms of level.
“I always say to people: in my position, Stephen Curry is the only player for whom I accept being put behind him. Steph had injuries, he played in a second zone team in college, his teams struggled, he was a two-time MVP, three-time NBA champion, I can’t take anything away from Steph, I respect everything he’s done.
After Steph, I can’t put myself behind anyone in our time. I’m not talking about the numbers, just the level. There may also be Kyrie, whose level people forget about focusing on bullshit.”
The fact that Curry won even before being joined by another superstar is a big argument for Damian Lillard in how he views the Warriors point guard compared to other players of this generation.
