Darmstadt 98 has at least temporarily taken the lead in the 2nd Bundesliga. Coach Torsten Lieberknecht’s team won 1-0 (0-0) at Dynamo Dresden thanks to a late goal by Joker Mathias Honsak (90+3), ending a series of three games without a win.
The winner of the northern duel between Hamburger SV and Werder Bremen on Sunday (1:30 p.m. / Sky) passes the lilies. Meanwhile, Dresden has been waiting for a win for seven games and is one point ahead of the relegation place.
Before kick-off, the players of both teams formed the national flag of Ukraine with their yellow and blue jersey colours. When it started, the hosts almost got off to a dream start. After a bad pass from guest goalkeeper Marcel Schuhen, Julius Kade (1st) narrowly missed the lead.
Holland fails with a crossbar
Darmstadt then had a lot of ball possession, but Dresden initially remained more dangerous. With a bit of luck, a free-kick from Patrick Weihrauch (16 ‘) steered shoes onto the crossbar. The guests became really dangerous for the first time through goal scorer Luca Pfeiffer (29th), on the other side Oliver Batista Meier (39th) just missed the goal of the lilies with a free kick.
Darmstadt also had a lot of game control at the beginning of the second half in front of 10,024 spectators. The decisive pass in the last third often didn’t arrive.
For Dresden, Kevin Ehlers (58th) missed the chance to take the lead with a header against the post. The guests were unlucky when Fabian Holland shot the crossbar (85th) – then Honsak scored seconds before the final whistle.
