CB Sant Antoni is going through its worst sporting moment in the season of its debut in the LEB Plata, in which it is framed in the East group of the competition. Those from Portmany conceded their third consecutive defeat this Saturday, in the match played at the Pabellón de Sa Pedrera. Safir Fruits Alginet, who had a losing streak of eight games in a row, stormed the court of San Antonio, aggravating the moment of the team coached by Carlos Flores, who is having a February to forget. The Levantines took the win 67-74 and come out on top after their poor dynamics.
Javi Medori, from Ibiza, returned to the island after playing in Swedish basketball for Sant Antoni. The islander could not celebrate his debut with a win, but he scored 11 points and left signs that he will be an important player in the remainder of the competition. In fact, with a PIR of 23, he was the most relevant, as he also grabbed 12 rebounds, dished out three assists and put up a block.
The accumulation of games is taking a heavy toll on the Balearic Islands, and fatigue took its toll on the duel against Alginet. The visitors took advantage of this and went into the break with a succulent income. The 33-41 left the Valencians ahead on the scoreboard against all odds, since they arrived in Ibiza as penultimate in the championship and with quite a negative baggage.
Sant Antoni reduced the deficit after the third act of the match, which ended 50-55. He kept trying with faith in the last period, and even came with a chance to win in the final seconds of the match. However, Alginet managed the final quarter better (in which they won 17-19) to end up taking a hard-fought and well-deserved victory.
Next Sunday, February 20, Sant Antoni will face Cartagena, on the Cartagena track from 12 noon. Flores’ team needs to react and get out of the rut.
