Ousmane Dembele gets his second chance from Barcelona. The French player was asked to think about a new contract offer.
Dembele almost left Barcelona in January. After his contract was set to expire at the end of the season, the French player even rejected the offer of a new contract, thus making him omitted from the squad.
However, Dembele failed to move from the Camp Nou because the fans were quiet. Until finally, coach Xavi Hernandez played him again in the second half of the season.
Lately, Dembele actually performed well with Barcelona. From the last three games, he has made one goal and three assists.
Finally, the former Borussia Dortmund player shone when Barcelona played Athletic Bilbao in LaLiga. Ousmane Dembele made one goal and two assists in his side’s 4-0 win.
Now, Barcelona are ‘kind’ to Dembele. The club gave the winger a second chance to rethink a new contract offer for him.
“Dembele knows our offer and knows we always want him to stay. We hope he thinks again at the end of the season,” Barcelona president Joan Laporta said, as reported by France24.
“In football, you can never rule anything out. Look, he couldn’t play, then now he’s playing, and he’s playing well. But his contract extension doesn’t depend on me,” he explained.
Dembele was recruited by Barcelona from Dortmund in 2017. The 24-year-old has already made 32 goals and 26 assists for the LaLiga giants.
If he fails to survive at Barcelona, Ousmane Dembele himself has been targeted by many clubs. Among these are Chelsea and Ligue 1 giants Paris Saint-Germain.
