Bastian: Thanks for having me. It’s definitely been a rollercoaster, that’s for sure.
Let’s rewind a bit. You were sidelined by a toe injury and then, just as you were finding your rhythm again, COVID-19 hit. How did you stay mentally tough during those difficult months?
Bastian: Honestly, it was tough. There were moments of doubt, wondering if I’d ever be back to my old self. But I have a great support system – my family, friends, and teammates kept me going. And focusing on getting healthy, one day at a time, was crucial.
And now, you’re back, called up to represent Germany against Israel. What were your initial thoughts when you got the news?
Bastian: pure excitement. It’s an honor to wear the national jersey, and I’m incredibly grateful for the opportunity.
The Israeli team might potentially be relatively inexperienced, but I’m sure they’ll be hungry for a win. What are your expectations for this doubleheader?
Bastian: We’re going into these games with a clear goal: to win. We respect our opponents, but we also believe in our abilities. This is a chance to show what we can do as a team and build momentum.
This doubleheader also presents a fantastic platform for emerging German talent to shine. Do you feel added pressure to perform well,knowing you’re a role model for younger players?
Bastian: Absolutely. I want to inspire the next generation of German basketball players. I want them to see that with hard work and dedication,anything is possible.
