Fortuna Düsseldorf managed a small liberation in the relegation battle. When new coach Daniel Thioune made his debut, Fortuna fought their way back into the game – and rewarded themselves.
Take a deep breath at Fortuna Düsseldorf. The second division team, threatened with relegation, won 2-1 (0-1) against Bundesliga relegated FC Schalke 04 on the debut of their new coach Daniel Thioune.
Blendi Idrizi gave the Royal Blues a 1-0 lead just before the break (42′), Khaled Narey equalized just a few seconds after the restart (47′). A good ten minutes later, Rouwen Hennigs turned the game in favor of the home side (56′).
With the home win, Fortuna increased the gap to a direct relegation zone to a comfortable eight points, but remains on the relegation place because SV Sandhausen scored a point in the 0-0 draw in Ingolstadt.
In Sunday’s third game, Hannover 96 and Darmstadt 98, who had to play without Thorsten Lieberknecht, who tested positive, drew 2-2. Sebastin Stolze (18th, own goal) and Aaron Seydel (61st), Cedric Teuchert (35th) and Julian Börner (50th) scored for the lilies on the scorer list for Lower Saxony.
