Ukrainian tennis player Elina Svitolina announced this Sunday that she will donate all the prizes that he wins in his next tournaments in support of the army and humanitarian actions in his country, which for four days has suffered an invasion by the Russian army.
“I promise to redistribute the ‘prize money’ of my next tournaments to support the army and humanitarian needs to help them defend themselves, to defend our country,” Svitolina tweeted in a “letter to my home country.”
“Currently I am far from you, far from my family, far from my people, but my heart goes out to you,” he wrote to the Ukrainians. “My people, every day I am afraid for you. I am devastated, my eyes do not stop crying, my heart bleeds without stopping. But I am also so proud to see our people, our mothersyes, to our parents, our brothers, our sisters, our children, so brave and strong to defend us. They are heroes.”

Already on Thursday, a few hours after the start of the Russian army’s attacks in Ukraine, Svitolina tweeted a message asking for “help to stop this war.”
Numerous athletes from various disciplines and from different backgrounds have shown in recent days their solidarity with Ukraine, At the same time, the international sports authorities have reacted by canceling or relocating the competitions scheduled for the coming months in Russia, such as the final of the Soccer Champions League (moved to Paris) and Formula 1 Russian Grand Prix (cancelled).
