Michel Adam showed a consistent performance that day and won early in the preliminary round against Oleksandr Koshliak from Ukraine and Thelmo Gomes from Portugal. In the quarter-finals, the 24-year-old from Palatinate had to go into the golden-score extension against Alexandre Mariac from France. After more than seven minutes of fighting, the German champion scored the decisive Wazaari score. Adam then defeated Bayram Kandemir of Turkey again in the semifinals before the end of the fight time. Also in the final he dominated the fight against Yannick van der Kolk from the Netherlands. However, no decision was made in the regular fighting time, so it went into overtime again. The German stayed on, organized the fight offensively and scored the decision after another two minutes.
Martin Setz won three fights and had to admit defeat in the semifinals after 5:34 minutes to Ejder Toktay from Turkey. The 27-year-old from Brandenburg secured the bronze medal in the “small final” after almost six minutes against Kevin Azema from France.
Seventh place went to Lennart Slamberger from JC Leipzig in the up to 66 kg class and Nadja Bazynski from TSV Bayer 04 Leverkusen in the up to 63 kg class.
