The pictures from Ukraine shock the whole world.
Julian Nagelsmann (34) is also finding it difficult to concentrate on football at the moment. The Bayern coach one day before the Bundesliga duel in Frankfurt (6.30 p.m.): “I’m shocked and also a bit “afraid” that something like this would happen in a country where we were still on the field not too long ago jogged and looked at the very beautiful city. And now you are seeing horrific images from Ukraine, which leaves me dismayed.”
Munich only played in the Ukrainian capital in November. In the group stage of the Champions League they met Dynamo Kiev (2-1 win). The city is now in a state of emergency.
Nagelsmann continues: “Of course I condemn war and it is not easy to talk about football and find your way into everyday life. You want to continue to do your job well, but when you see the pictures, you start to think a lot and think about what the consequences will be. For the people of Ukraine it is more than dramatic and frightening. Yesterday I read a very good saying that goes with this: There is no way to peace, peace is the way. I think that should be the motto again as soon as possible. It must not go on like this!”
Nagelsmann sees Uefa’s decision not to hold the Champions League final in Saint Petersburg as absolutely correct. The coach: “I think it’s good that Uefa made the right decision very quickly and in my opinion. A good sign.”
As the association announced on Friday, the final will be moved to Paris.
