Federer and Nadal together again

Federer and Nadal together again

The fifth edition of the Laver Cup, to be held in September in London, will feature the presence of Rafael Nadal and Roger Federer as stars of the European team.

This is the first event in which the Swiss has confirmed his presence after his last appearance on a tennis court occurred at Wimbledon last year, where he fell in the quarterfinals. Since then, the Helvetian has undergone a new knee operation, the third in two years, and still does not have an exact date for his return to the circuit.

It will be the third time that Nadal participates in the Laver Cup, after playing it in its inaugural edition in Prague in 2017 and later, in 2019, in Geneva. In Prague, he played an iconic doubles match alongside Federer, the first of their career together.

Both players will represent the European team, which has been victorious in the previous four editions, and which, once again, will be captained by the Swedish Bjorn Borg.

“Rafa is an incredible person and an inspiration for me and for many more people in the world. He wrote to me after the last Laver Cup in Boston and told me we should play doubles in London and of course I’m interested,” Federer said in a statement.

“Roger has been a very important part of my career, a great rival and a true friend. If we can play doubles one more time it will be a very special experience for both of us at this stage of our careers.”

The Laver Cup, which has been an official tournament for several seasons, will be held from September 23 to 25 at the O2 in London, which aims to receive some 20,000 people.
