Thierry: It’s always tough when you’re missing key players, especially attacking players. Undav and Vanzeir are proven goalscorers, and their absence was certainly felt. But football is a team sport. The onus is on the players on the pitch to step up and fill those gaps.

Thierry: You hit the nail on the head. Teams will always come to Brussels with a defensive mindset. Union need to be smarter, more creative in their approach. It can’t just be about possession. They need to find ways to penetrate those deep defenses, maybe through quicker build-up play, more movement off the ball, exploiting spaces.
You played under some fantastic managers in your career. What advice would you give Mazzù in terms of finding solutions against these types of opponents?
Thierry:
First and foremost, analyze the opposition. Identify their weaknesses, their vulnerabilities. Secondly,
be bold with your substitutions. Sometimes, a fresh pair of legs, a change of pace, can make all the difference. And lastly, trust his players. empower them to take risks, be creative.
