Figure skater Chen once again steals the show and jumps to Olympic gold

Figure skater Beijing Winter Olympics are finally opening | SPREAD”>Nathan Chen has won gold at the Winter Games in Beijing. The 22-year-old American had set a world record with his short freestyle and was also in a class of its own in the free freestyle.

The three-time world champion rode a medley from the movie Rocket Man about Elton John and showed one quadruple jump after another with a smile on his face.

His score of 218.63 was just short of a world record, but more than enough to trump Yuma Kagiyama. The bronze also went to Japan, to Shoma Uno.

Favorite Hanyu climbs despite fall

A battle was expected between Chen and Yuzuru Hanyu in advance, but the two-time Olympic champion messed up his short freestyle. In his free freestyle he was the first ever to try a quadruple axel. Hanyu fell, but rose from eight to four.
