The Moto Club Alfieri of asti is gearing up for an action-packed start to the 2022 enduro season. Five promising young riders will represent the club at the prestigious “Mario Ferrero” mini enduro trophy in Casale Monferrato on February 27th. This event, honoring the legacy of a beloved figure in Italian enduro, attracts over 100 participants annually.
Among the Alfieri contingent are Pietro Bertorello (2012, cadet mini category), Gabriele Doglio (2006, 125 mini enduro), Marco Orsi (2009, senior mini category), Filippo Sala (2008, 50 mini category), and Bartek scarfiello (2011, senior mini category).
“We are thrilled to have five of our young riders competing in this year’s trophy,” said giorgio Bandoli, President of the Moto Club Alfieri. “[Mario Ferrero] was a close friend of the club and a prominent figure in Italian enduro. His contributions were instrumental in the club’s growth, and participating in this event is a true honor for us.”
Meanwhile, the club’s senior riders are setting their sights on a different challenge. They will be competing in the Italian Absolute Championships in Arma di Taggia,Imperia,on March 6th.This high-stakes event will see some of Italy’s top enduro riders vying for national glory.

Marco, thanks for joining us. The “Mario Ferrero” mini enduro trophy in Casale Monferrato is a notable event on the calendar. How crucial is it for young riders like those from Moto Club Alfieri to participate in such events?
Marco Cioni: Absolutely crucial. Thes events are like proving grounds. It’s not just about the competition; it’s about gaining invaluable experience on challenging tracks, facing diverse terrains, and learning to deal with pressure – all while developing camaraderie with fellow riders.
The Alfieri riders, ranging from Pietro Bertorello in the cadet mini category to Bartek Scarfiello in the senior minis, represent a diverse pool of talent. What do you look for in young enduro riders during these early stages of their careers?
Marco Cioni: Raw talent is important,for sure,but what truly sets apart a promising rider is that combination of grit,determination,and a willingness to learn. Enduro isn’t just about speed; it’s about strategy, knowing your bike, and pushing your limits safely and intelligently.
The club’s senior riders have their sights set on a different challenge – the Italian Absolute Championships in Arma di Taggia. How do you see their chances on the national stage, and what advice would you give them as they prepare for this high-stakes event?
Marco Cioni: The Italian Championships are fiercely competitive, with the best riders in the country vying for the title. My advice to the seniors would be to focus on their strengths, hone their riding skills, and maintain mental fortitude. It’s a long race, and consistency reigns supreme.
Looking back on your illustrious career, what are some of the biggest lessons you learned as an enduro racer? How do those lessons translate for the younger generation entering the sport?
Marco Cioni: Enduro taught me the importance of perseverance, of picking yourself up after setbacks, and learning from your mistakes. It also taught me the value of teamwork and the unshakeable bond that forms between riders, mechanics, and the entire team. These are lessons that extend far beyond the race track and apply to life as a whole.
