Fontajau will be dyed purple for March 8th

L’Uni Girona is the largest a benchmark for women’s sports in the counties of Girona. And not only here, but also throughout Catalonia. In a masculinized world, the players give visibility to the figure of the woman showing that their struggle goes beyond the top of the court, where they prevail with their basketball, as outside you have to deal with a lot of inequalities. Aware of its weight in society, the club has launched an initiative aimed at Women’s Day (March 8) to continue to promote its commitment to women’s equality. That’s why “Everyone’s party” of the next Sunday 6 March against Tenerife in Fontajau (18.05 h) will become a vindication of the pioneers of the feminist movement responsible for laying the foundation stones for a more just and supportive society. Without them, the road would not have been built and we would not be able to move forward.

On the occasion of Women’s Day, Spar Girona has designed a special lilac t-shirt which is already on sale at an affordable price of 30 euros to make it affordable for almost everyone. This t-shirt cannot be personalized, considering that the model made for the occasion has the number 8 and the name “Women” on the back. Considering the logistics, to make sure you have the shirt for the match against Tenerife you will have to buy it before this Sunday 27 February. From the club, a good response is expected from the fans with thegoal to dye lilac Fontajau.

In addition, more actions have been prepared. With the intention of giving visibility to the female referents of the Girona counties, and also of Catalonia, a election among followers for choosing the names of the women who left their mark on the fight for equal rights and that at the time they did not have the visibility they deserved. The idea is for each Uni player to wear the name of a benchmark on their back during “everyone’s game” against Tenerife.

Through a form that can be found on the club’s website, the Spar Girona proposes 11 women linked in different areas (sports, social, work, business, etc.) to voting. However, it also opens the door to consider others. In this case, it is necessary to put the name and surnames of the nominee and explain the reason for the choice. Among the list suggested by the entity, the women from Girona are: the former player Roser Wolfthe poetess Maria Àngels Angladathe teacher and activist Antonia Adroherthe actress and theater director Cristina Cerviàthe writer Caterina Albertthe laundry Salvadora Catà (the first woman shot by the Franco regime), Anna Casabella (the player and coach of CB L’Escala recently transferred) and the journalist Paquita Boris.
