After Egypt‘s qualification against Morocco in the quarter-finals of the Africa Cup, a violent brawl broke out in the corridors of the Amadou Ahidjo stadium in Yaoundé (Cameroon). Fouzi Lekjaa, the president of the Moroccan Football Federation (FRMF), was hit by Egypt’s fourth goalkeeper, Mahmoud Ahmed, and referred the matter to the disciplinary committee.
The Morocco-Egypt match was an exciting and difficult match characterized by eruptions. While the score was still tied (1-1), an altercation broke out on the pitch between Moroccan international Achraf Hakimi and Egyptian Mostafa Mohamed after 75 minutes. Egypt made it 2-1 after extra time. The Atlas Lions lost to the Pharaohs and were eliminated in the quarter-finals of the African Championship.

After the match, another fight broke out, this time in the corridors of the Amadou Ahidjo Stadium. According to Hervé Penot of the sports newspaper The Team The fourth Egyptian goalkeeper, Mahmoud Ahmed, dealt a blow to Fouzi Lekjaa, president of the Moroccan football association FRMF. Achraf Hakimi had to intervene to defend Lekjaa. If his teammates hadn’t intervened, he would have started brawling with opposing players.
Fouzi Lekjaa demanded immediate apologies. When the tension had subsided, the Egyptian player had to go to the Atlas Lions’ dressing room to apologize. But Fouzi Lekjaa is not going to stop there. He has submitted the case to the disciplinary committee, reports Hespress.

There was also a violent altercation between Vahid Halilhodzic, coach of the Moroccan national team, and Carlos Queiroz, coach of the Egyptian national team. In the aftermath, the Atlas Leeuwen coach skipped the traditional post-game press conference. His Egyptian counterpart was not present at the pre-match press conference.
