A Conversation with Charles Noakes: Para-Badminton’s Rising Star

Charles: Thanks for having me! It’s great to be here.

Moderator: Charles, you’re a force to be reckoned with in the para-badminton world. You’re currently ranked third in the world in men’s doubles and are a French champion. What sparked your passion for this sport?

Charles: It all started when I was younger.I was always drawn to racquet sports, and badminton, with its speed and agility, really captured my creativity.

Moderator: That’s fantastic! and now, with para-badminton making its debut at the Paralympics in Tokyo, it’s an incredibly exciting time for the sport. How does it feel to be part of this historic moment?

Charles: It’s an absolute honor. To see para-badminton finally recognized on the Paralympic stage is a dream come true for so many of us. It’s a testament to the dedication and hard work of athletes and advocates who have fought for inclusion and recognition.Moderator: Absolutely. And speaking of inclusion, the upcoming French Para-Badminton Championships, co-organized by the Badminton Clubs of Saint-Herblain and Carquefou, are a fantastic example of how the sport brings people together. What are your thoughts on the event and its significance?

charles: I think it’s fantastic! these championships are a great prospect to showcase the talent and skill of para-badminton players in France. It’s also a chance to raise awareness about the sport and inspire more people to get involved.

Moderator: I couldn’t agree more. The fact that these championships are free and open to the public is a wonderful way to make the sport accessible to everyone.

Charles: Exactly! Badminton is a sport for everyone,nonetheless of ability.

Moderator: Now, Charles, you mentioned that you’re hoping to qualify for the Tokyo Paralympics. What are your training plans leading up to the Games?

Charles: I’m training hard every day, focusing on improving my technique, speed, and stamina.I’m also working closely with my doubles partner to develop our strategies and teamwork.
