Aalst proved in the first set why it played the favorite role. At first it went straight, but then Aalst managed to pull the sheet to himself. Set win was the logical end result.
In the 2nd set Aalst ran out again, but then Gent took a step forward. Aalst believed in a good outcome, but Ghent was no bird for the cat. Thanks to a strong Jente De Vries, among other things, it even took the win in the 2nd set.
In the 3rd set, Aalst was shaken awake again and then expanded a gap. It had a 4-point lead, but couldn’t hold on to that bonus for long. Gent came back to 19-19 and that was the breaking point for Aalst.
Gent received 2 set balls in the 3rd set. Aalst still undone the first set ball, but the people of Ghent did not let the 2nd set ball slip out of their hands.
Gent dived into the last set with great confidence. Aalst, on the other hand, was already somewhat battered. The Gentenaars continued on their good momentum and made a gap of first 7 and then 10 points.
Aalst was no longer able to compete against his opponent and Gent was able to finish the match. The 4th set eventually ended at 14-25.
Gent writes club history in this way because it is the 1st time that it has won the Belgian Cup.
