The Toronto Raptors ship by trade Goran Dragic to the San Antonio Spurs, in exchange for Thaddeus Young, Drew Eubanks it’s a chosen on the second round of the 2022 NBA draft originally owned by the Detroit Pistons. They will also finish at the San Antonio Spurs first pick in the 2022 NBA draft in Torontowith protections from 1 to 14, or from 2023 with protections from 1 to 13, protections that will expire from 2024.
Dragic, 35, is not expected to stay in San Antonio after the trade deadline. the parties will negotiate a buyout which will make the Slovenian veteran a free agent. Goran Dragic could therefore sign with Mavericks, Bucks, Bulls or LA Clippers, with fellow countryman Luka Doncic’s Dallas being the obligatory favorite. The Mavs had already tried in the free agency 2021 to get to Dragic.
Thaddeus Young, who in San Antonio was out of the rotations of coach Popovich, will find minutes and space in Toronto, which needs to extend their rotations in view of the playoffs. Toronto had tried in recent days to reach Danilo Gallinari of the Atlanta Hawks without success.
Thanks to the trade, Spurs have created a trade exception from 5.3 million dollars.
