Great volley Depoitre gives ten-man KAA Gent a hard-fought victory in Eupen | Jupiler Pro League 2021/2022

KAA Gent keeps the pressure high on the top 4. It recorded a crucial victory against Eupen thanks to a great volley from Laurent Depoitre. After the break, the Buffalos still ran into problems due to a strict red card for Matisse Samoise. Smail Prevljak saw an equalizer disallowed, Tarik Tissoudali failed several times to kill the match.

Eupen – AA Gent in a nutshell:

  • Key moment: Barely 5 minutes after the break, Samoise unhappily steps on Alloh’s foot. Referee Visser is very strict and immediately draws a red card. The start of a survival journey for the 10 of Ghent.
  • Man of the match: Laurent Depoitre made the difference for Ghent today with a goal to frame. After a wonderful pass from De Sart, the attacker unloaded with a wonderful volley. Enough for the three points.
  • Remarkable: Eupen may still be in the running for the cup final, but the club has been getting hit hard in the competition for several weeks. The last 9 matches yielded barely 2 points, the last league victory was exactly 2 months ago.

Depoitre makes mouths stand out with beautiful goal

“If we make a mistake here, it will be very difficult to reach the top 4.” Hein Vanhaezebrouck made no bones about it, Ghent could only be satisfied with a victory in Eupen. After barely 10 minutes, Depoitre should have opened the score, but he headed the perfect opportunity right on Nurudeen.

A solid miss that the Ghent attacker already made up for a few minutes later and how! With a beautiful volley on an equally wonderful pass from De Sart, he drove the ball high into the goal in one time. A beautiful goal with which Gent immediately took control of the game.

The visitors did not give away the direction afterwards. Roef, who was again preferred over Bolat in the Ghent goal, only had to show his ability on a long shot from Magnée.

Ghent holds up after questionable red for Samoise

Eupen dropped Nuhu and N’Dri in the team for the second half and the latter immediately created danger. On his pass, Prevljak forced Roef to make a good save. It went from almost 1-1 to almost 0-2, because on the other side Nurudeen also had to distinguish himself on a header from Depoitre.

Barely 5 minutes after the break, the game suddenly changed. Samoise stepped somewhat unhappily on Alloh’s foot, but Visser was relentless and turned red. With ten people it was survival for the visitors. A lovely free kick by Prevljak even brought Eupen alongside on the hour, but the goal was rightly disallowed for a pushing error on Hjulsager.

Gent only occasionally escaped the pressure, but Tissoudali failed to decide the match twice. Twenty minutes before the end, he headed over from close range after a measured cross from Kums. In the final phase he was too nonchalant and forgot to put the icing on a delicious combination.

It could have broken Ghent sourly, but the visitors held their ground. Roef had to show his ability on a shot by Prevljak.
