José Miguélez: A pinch of Joao

The army of the unexpected, usual secondary, usual forgotten, the fish cart, gave Atlético a joy. And it made him look like a team, finally, again, with movements that sounded intentional, the consequence of a planned plan, ordered and even synchronized. In the harassment and the withdrawals, in the unmarking and in the aids, in the past centers and in the fouls. All calculated and executed with an accent of solidarity that reminded one of Simeone‘s best times, so forgotten they were. It was being the night of the Lodi, Herrera, Kondogbia or Vrsaljko…

And, of course, that of Joao Félix, the one pointed out by the coach and his troop of sycophants, the despised one, the soccer player whom

is always under suspicion. Also the best Atlético player, whatever they wear. In the end it was not something to expect, perhaps just to line it up. Because to all that ration of muscles and premeditated collective sacrifice it is convenient to herd it with a pinch of talent. And that is what the Portuguese assures, despite his confusion and his defensive fragility, that he gives the feeling of being a spectator when the team (he cannot help it, it is the boss’s DNA), throws himself back and enjoys like nobody else to suffer a siege.

At the most critical moment of his legendary era, Simeone has taken refuge in the brilliance of the subordinate he likes least. He continues to gesticulate the coach in an ostentatious and demagogic way every time the Portuguese fails or does not move where he would like, but at least he throws him to the grass. And Joao, despite the pushes and bites with which his rivals constantly give him, despite the fact that the ball and the equipment are often far from him, responds. His headed goal was to name a street. But everything else he does also earns compliments: a check, a feint, an undetectable move. He adds.

When United equalized without deserving it too much, almost in the only shot on goal (Atlético did not shoot much more either), the Portuguese was no longer on the field. But don’t associate it. The goal was a miscalculation by Reinildo, which is enough to punish the local conformity formula now that Oblak no longer works miracles. And that is a mystery.
