Reigning Belgian champion, Brussels resident Julien Carraggi won a new national title this Sunday in Kortrijk
For the first time, Julien Carraggi started these Belgian championships in the shoes of the favourite. A status he has fully assumed.
After four matches played without losing a single set (Charles Fouyn, Frédéric Gaspard, Dylan Rosius and Marijn Put), the Belgian champion met in the final Yaro Van Delsen, who beat Elias Bracke in the semi-final. After a first set won (21-15), Julien Carraggi let slip two match points in the second set (20-22). He finally won the decisive third set (21-9).
At 21, this business management student lifts this trophy for the second time in a row.
Next meeting for him, Portugal in March, where he will play a new international tournament after reaching the quarter-finals of a very tough tournament in India at the end of January.
The 134e world player still has very big goals. In the short/medium term, he would like to join the world top 100. And why not dream of the Olympic Games in Paris in 2024.
