Josip Šimunić: “I certainly believe so. Gent has a history of exceeding expectations in Europe. They’ve gone toe-to-toe with giants like Lyon and Dynamo kyiv in the past. Under Hein Vanhaezebrouck, they’ve become a well-organized and disciplined unit. The key for Gent will be to capitalize on their strengths: pace on the wings, strong defensive structure, and clinical finishing. They can’t afford to get caught up in PAOK’s physicality and must dictate the tempo.”
Moderator: Do you feel relieved that Gent avoided the likes of Leicester City, PSV, and Marseille?
Josip Šimunić: “Absolutely. Those are all formidable opponents with European pedigree. While PAOK will be challenging, avoiding those titan clashes gives Gent a real shot at progressing. this tie, on paper, presents the best opportunity for them to reach the next stage.”
Moderator: What about the other Belgian teams? It truly seems like a difficult road ahead for them.
josip Šimunić: “It’s true. Vitesse Face a mountainous task against AS Roma. It’s going to be a steep learning curve for them. PSV, Feyenoord, and AZ have defied the odds before, but they’ve drawn tricky opponents as well. It’s going to require Herculean efforts from all of them to make waves in this competition.”
Moderator: what’s your prediction for the Gent-PAOK tie, and what message would you have for Belgian football fans?
Josip Šimunić: “I predict a closely contested affair. I think Gent can nick it in the second leg at home. It’s going to be a true test of character, but I believe they have what it takes. For Belgian fans, stay united, believe in your team, and prepare for an exciting ride.Gent have the potential to make all of us proud.”
