Karl Geiger wins Olympic bronze in ski jumping in Beijing

So far, things have not gone well for the German ski jumpers at the Olympics. But now Karl Geiger secures bronze on the large hill. Victory goes to Marius Lindvik, Markus Eisenbichler is fifth.

Karl Geiger has won the Olympic bronze medal in ski jumping. The 29-year-old was only beaten by Norway’s Martin Lindvik and Japan’s Ryoyu Kobayashi in the large hill competition on Saturday. On the gigantic facility in Zhangjiakou, China, Geiger twice jumped 138 meters.

With his third place he secured the first medal at these winter games for the men’s team of national coach Stefan Horngacher. The team had disappointed in the individual on the normal hill, in the mixed competition Germany had been disqualified after Katharina Althaus had been disqualified. Markus Eisenbichler was fifth on Saturday.
