Back-to-back is a tradition in the NBA. Anderlecht will live their first double duel against the same team a few days apart in two different competitions for almost 14 years. Less than 72 hours after going to Eupen in the Cup, the Mauves receive the Eupenois in the league on Sunday evening.
They had the case against Speed in the Conference League this season but in another context and with a week off between the two games.
In 2008, they played twice against the same team three days apart. First against Dender – already in the quarter-finals of the Cup – then against Germinal Beerschot in the next round. Anderlecht have done well in those four games: they won three and conceded a draw in the second leg of the Cup semi-final against Beerschot. The Mauves however qualified for the final and won it against La Gantoise.
Vincent Kompany said he was used to this kind of calendar. During his time at Manchester City, he experienced this scenario seven times, against Stoke City (2010 and 2011), Wolverhampton (2011), Liverpool (2006), Swansea (2016), Arsenal (2018) and Tottenham (2019). A welcome experience.
